As my mother fell, she knocked a boiling pot off the stove
It fell on her head
Even though it was July, she was cooking pasta

Mother’s face was no more than six inches from mine
As she screamed, jerked away the pot

Mother was dead when I woke up
Seven years later, my father said that she had become tangled in the cords of
